Many Latino voters were disappointed with number of Latinos in the Obama administration. But the President has “redeemed” himself with his selection of the “qualified” Sonia Sotomayor.  Complementing her three decade career, President Obama pointed out and praised Sotomayor’s “depth of experience and breadth of perspective”.

Though some in the GOP has been quick to label her as someone from the “far left” and even “racist“, some in the party are (such as John McCain) are promising a fair confirmation hearing.  Any harsh attacks on the nominee could result in further alienating the fastest growing demographic in the country (67% of Hispanics voted for Obama) and women.  Softening their stance against her can alienate the old-guard of the party.  Look forward to an interesting confirmation process.
